Is Spring finally here?
What an awful winter in so many places in the US this year. Terrible, awful, miserable and cold and snowy in the Northeast. A lot of the rest of the country didn’t fare well either, except for parts of the southwest, which had warmer than usual temps. Jealous. I am so ready to come out of hibernation.
Bad weather, dark days and too many changes in the neighborhood. Construction continues on the luxury apartments which will replace what was once a hospital. A building that will forever change the character of the neighborhood, and probably not for the better. Famous Ray’s Pizza is gone (again); Gray’s Papaya left after a huge rent hike, to be replaced by yet another juice joint; Loehman’s closed to make way for Barney’s return downtown; the BBQ place around the corner has closed and MXYPLZYK (not a spelling error, but a unique little independent gift shop) closed down as well, after many many years. And, while we finally may be getting rid of the sex shop on the next corner that the block association has been trying for years to close, I’m guessing they’re not trilled at the prospect of yet more luxury hi-rise housing. Not even going to think about all the snow I shoveled.
Oh well, on the plus side, there were two seasons of House of Cards and a new season of Downton Abbey to watch; a few really good books read and only a couple not up to par; just one new cookbook bought (total stands at 180); a new laptop; five or six or seven sweaters finished (a sign of a lot of indoor time); lots of good hearty winter dinners at home with good friends; and a hardcover cookbook made for a shower gift that honed my computer skills, kept me up way late into many nights, and took my mind off not wanting to veer outside into the cold and windy and snowy days.
Take ten minutes and jot down your ‘good’ and ‘awful’ of the Winter, say Goodbye, and move on to a list of the things you’d like to remember about this Spring.
